First, the good news: Sam is approved to move back to CDH as soon as they have a bed open!
Now, the bad news: The heart issue doctors initially thought was mild and wouldn’t need treatment until adulthood…well now it looks like it will need treatment within the next year.
He has a unicuspid aortic valve that was initially thought to have mild stenosis (narrowing) but an echocardiogram today showed it to be a bit more moderate. For now we will continue to observe, but the cardiologist I spoke with today felt there was a 50% chance Sam will need to have a balloon catheter procedure to open up the valve more within the next year.
We are just beginning to learn what this all means and will explain in greater detail once we understand ourselves.
